Set it free

Wizard of Oz: "Hearts will never be practical until they are made unbreakable!"

The soul's tug-of-war between clinging to things and setting 'em free never ceases. The more we cling, the more it hurts. How to let it go? I dunno. It is a quest for me and I am ready to take it. I must first distinguish between what is material and what is eternal!

As the Bhagwad Gita preaches,

"sattvam rajas tama iti gunah prakrti-sambhavah
nibadhnanti maha-baho dehe dehinam avyayam"

Translation: Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas - these three qualities born of material nature tie down the imperishable soul to the body.

"
sattvam sukhe sanjayati rajah karmani bharata
jnanam avrtya tu tamah pramade sanjayaty uta"

Translation: Sattva drives one to joy and Rajas to action; while Tamas, clouding wisdom, incites one to error as well as sleep and sloth.

I wonder what prevails more within myself - Rajas or Tamas?

@Zoxcleb: Maybe I am unclear here..

The troubles arise as the soul clings to those material things...if we let the soul free..we might be relieved of the bondage. :)

almost two years ago when we used to attend Geeta class at IIT Kanpur. Our madam, while talking about this shlok said, I am 90% tamasic. We were shocked . If she was 90% tamasic, who were we? Kept us thinking for a long while.

Topic of Let Go is what Geeta is all about. Wonderful experience studying Geeta if you ask me.

@Nishit: Yes, it is a wonderful experience. I try to read atleast 2 sholkas everday. To understand those two sholkas i spent the entire day and still it seems only somewhat clear. Practising Gita is the toughest!

I am too happy to hear your current studies. I suggest you try some good commentaries on Bhagwad Geeta.

Geetamrutam - Rev. Pandurang Shastri Athavale
Holy Geeta - Swami Chinmayananda

Also there is commentary by Swami Paramhansa Yogananda. Try to get your hand on any of these. May you enjoy your journey.

Oh and one more thing from my experience, at some points it may seem confusing. But just hang in there :)

Someone said:

"For this is Wisdom;
to love, to live,
To take what fate, or the Gods may give.
To ask no question, to make no prayer,
To kiss the lips and caress the hair,
Speed passion's ebb as you greet its flow
To have, - to hold - and - in time, - to let go!"

Eat a peda from Duliram
