Is It A Matter Of Choice?
Came accross this Greg Anderson quote today:
"You can't expect to prevent negative feelings altogether. And you can't expect to experience positive feelings all the time...The Law of Emotional Choice directs us to acknowledge our feelings but also to refuse to get stuck in the negative ones."
Is it just choice? What about personal preference to be in a particular state of mind? We all have some or the other preference and our choices are always dominated by those preferences, isn't it? Or are we prejudiced to certain extent that we don't want to justify and accept the other side of the coin? Forget about just the two sides of the coins. There can be also a bridge between the two opposite banks of a river, right? I think it is just how we chose to express our feelings to portray ourselves in a particular way. Who cares though? Things are not always justifiable. What say ya?

i say follow the happiness theory
Choice is based on personal preference! What the hell are you talking about?
That is what I thought! I am talking about the state of mind here and not just general choices. As I put it earlier, things are not always justifiable.
that guy is nuts!! how can he claim to say anything like that... completely agree with the way u putit... esp like the bridge analogy... :-)
One cannot win an argument by throwing in a "things are not always justifiable"
You're pursuing a PhD, you ought to do better!
And how can anon tell if it's a "guy"?
@Anon the second: Agreed, that one cannot put that 'things are not always justifiable' and win an argument. But I want to clarify that I want to express my thoughts here and there is no need for me to justify my thoughts. I am just seeking opinions to see how far do my thoughts coinside with others. :)

One cannot even "make" an argument by yelling "What the hell are you talking about?".
Things happen, good or bad - sometimes by choice, sometimes not - having a state of mind depends on a lot of things. The place you live, people you interact, things you do, even food you eat - while some of that is by your choice - some is where destiny takes you. In an ideal world - destiny will be defined by you; in the real world, while you still get to define your destiny, the path you take to reach it is uncertain...
I completely agree with Greg - while you want to feel positive all the time - its not always in your hand to feel positive, thinking that something negative will not affect you will only lead to things being bottled up!
bumped into your blog from orkut!
